Apply for a fully-funded PhD position in Human & Machine Perception at Aix-Marseille University, France

Who can apply

Candidates should normally hold, or expect to hold before the PhD start date, a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field. Candidates from non-French academic systems are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility for doctoral enrolment is ultimately subject to approval by the doctoral school and the host institution.

In the body of the email, please include:

  • a short statement of up to 300 words explaining why you are interested in the project, which topic(s) you are interested in, and how your background is relevant
  • names, affiliations, and email addresses of two people who can comment on your academic or research potential

Application process

  • Application review will begin on July 20, 2026 and continue on a rolling basis until the positions are filled
  • Online interviews of shortlisted candidates will take place over the summer

Positions details

  • 3 years, under a French doctoral contract
  • Gross annual salary: €27600 / year
  • Possibility of an additional €2650 / year for a light complementary assignment (mission doctorale), such as teaching, science outreach, expertise, or knowledge-transfer activities
  • The position includes additional funding for research-related expenses, including conference participation, workshops, and research visits
  • Expected start date: not earlier than December 1, 2026
